Advantages and disadvantages of meta tag

 Meta tags are the piece of HTML that are influential in determining the visibility of a web page in SERPs.

These are added to the head section and can only be seen in HTML.

Some of the advantages of meta tags are:

  • These helps the website to communicate with the search engine robot.

  • They are used to indicate the search engine whether the website is to be indexed or not and helps in other additional contents.

  • With better writing of meta tags it helps the robots to better understand the topics and contents of the page on website so that it is more likely to rank higher in SERPs.

The disadvantages are as follows:
  • It has higher meta tag standard.
  • Meta tag has various document types and contains many fields.
  • Same information might be stored in different meta data as new metadata standards usually includes a subset of old standard.
